October Hill Farm Welcomes Coconut Grove

October Hill Farm welcomes our new stallion Coconut Grove, who arrived last week to his new home here in Texas. Coconut Grove is one of showjumping’s most accomplished Thoroughbred stars and, since his retirement, has continued to set precedents in warmblood registries here and abroad.

Comments Tamara Smith, “It is difficult to find a stallion that combines the essential attributes of pedigree, performance, conformation, and athleticism but especially rare to discover a stallion that is a spectacular producer. [Coconut Grove] has enamored inspectors and breeders throughout the world. [He] is the ‘real deal’ and will no doubt leave a legacy hard to follow.”

Visit the October Hill Farm website for more information about Coconut Grove and our other wonderful stallions.

FULL SISTER TO CASCANI PRODUCES APPROVED STALLION, COSINEVAL

Recent news from Germany proved that indeed the Holsteiner stamm 456 continues to produce quality offspring. This month at the 2008 approvals for Mecklenburg, the Cosimo
son Cosineval, out of the full sister to October Hill Farm’s Cascani (Cassini I/Carneval/Marlon) received approval and highest consideration for his presentation. The modern young stallion, owned by Kai Gerken, showed “interesting and significant strengths on the jump. In terms of technique, the youngster was one of the most prominent and best jumping stallions of the Korung. Always relaxed…he radiated peace and a serene form. He jumped the bars with ease. With this addition, the country has a hopeful stud of real talent.”

The stamm 456 also boasts Cascani’s half brother Askano (Alcatraz) as well as Cabinett I and Cabinett II, international successful jumping horses.

Breeder News

Longtime Holsteiner breeder Masu Hamacher of Florida contacted us recently about her Lordship daughter Wilhelmina, produced by Masu’s mare Dulcimer. This filly was premium at inspection and is now two years old. Masu writes, “Thought you might like to see a video of Wilhelmina 2 yr old by Lordship, stamm 4220. She's a lovely filly, big, athletic and very sweet . I wish I could keep her but I can't afford to keep any of my youngsters. I thought you might know some one interested in a jumper prospect who will also be a great broodmare prospect.” Masu has posted a video of this outstanding young mare on Youtube at http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=xVdJyRQG_IA.

You can contact her directy at the information provided on the youtube site if you have interest in this fantastic Lordship filly. Although Lordship is no longer with us, October Hill Farm has a bank of frozen semen available to interested breeders. You can contact us for more information and pricing.

October Hill Farm BWP Inspection

On August 25, 2008, October Hill Farm hosted the BWP inspectors for a small group of mares and foals and two stallion presentations. Figaro B, owned by Linda Bobrik, was granted a provisional breeding permit. Figaro was the winner of the BWP’s Two Year old Stallion Futurity in 2007 and was prepped for his stallion approval by October Hill Farm. He showed is excellent disposition, willing attitude and floaty, suspensed gaits to the crowed. Also presented was Ronda Stavisky’s Deja Blue B, who is completing his first full year of competition with rider Erin Davis of October Hill Farm. Deja Blue showed his progress to the judges who remarked on his brilliant development over the past twelve months. Four mares were presented. The five year-old mare Anjou by Amaretto D II out of a Watzmann/Perser mother received her 1st E-Label. In the older mare group, Kawa’s Joy by Contender received the highest mare score of the 2008 tour, followed closely by Lawitta by Cassini I. A third mare, Garnet by Lavall I, was also presented. The four mares had foals that were also scored. I-Mai Tai OHF by Mezcalero out of Anjou; I-Ixtapa by Justice out of Kawa’s Joy; I-Waborita by Justice out of Lawitta; and I-Whiskey Flip by Justice out of Garnet. The Justice filly Waborita received the highest filly score of the 2008 tour, while Whiskey Flip scored just one point lower. The Justice colt Ixtapa finished in the top five colts for the tour. This is a great accomplishment for the stallion Justice, a son of the great sire Ramiro and himself an extremely accomplished jumping stallion. Justice is a double bred Ramzes offspring; his champion filly Waborita is triple-bred Ramzes offspring. As a note, Waborita’s dam, Garnet, is in foal again to Justice for 2009.

Hammlisch

October Hill Farm recently received a greeting from client Kathy Birmingham, owner of Hammlisch, a son of Heraldik imported and raised by October Hill Farm. “Marvin” was sold to Kathy as a green hunter prospect, and went to train with Ken Smith, a top east coast hunter trainer who winters in Wellington . Marvin’s first season at the WEF was full of great news, with placings in the very large pre-green divisions. Marvin, who is now nine years old, was produced by the Contender/Fernando/Lido mare “Hertie”, who sadly passed away in 2006.

“Hi Wendy,
I thought you might enjoy viewing some photos of Marvin. He is doing great. He showed a bit in Florida this winter for practice but I really just have fun with him as I lost interest in showing. I ride him a lot and it ranges from jumping to trail riding. He is very happy and lives from May to November at Evergreen Farm which is a beautiful 250 acre farm on the border of Illinois and Wisconsin . He still spends his winters in Florida .

I hope all is well with you.

My best,
Kathy Birmingham”

October Hill Farm Open House

Yesterday we hosted our very first open house at October Hill. We welcomed many guests including old friends and many first time visitors. Erin dazzled us with her very informative and educational free jumping seminar and thrilled the crowd with her riding demonstration aboard Ocordo who showed off his amazingly athletic jump. Several of October Hill's mares and foals also had their time to shine during our mare and foal presentation and were happy to show off for our visitors. Our charity raffle raised over $450 for the North Texas Humane Society Equine Division, so all in all the event was a smashing success. We hope to see you there next year!
